What you can automate on WhatsApp today
- The first reply to every incoming message, in under two minutes, at any hour.
- Sorting every contact by what they say, without anyone having to read everything.
- Follow-up: a second message to people who asked for a quote and went quiet, a reminder to those thinking it over, and tidying up conversations that are going nowhere.
- Alerts for your team: someone interested, a complaint, a number with problems.
What you shouldn't automate
Negotiation, closing and anything that affects money or deadlines. By design, the MultiChats agent doesn't drop prices, doesn't promise dates and doesn't chase people who have said no. Automation that does those things earns you bad reviews, not customers.
How to get started, step by step
- Give it your tone, not a "professional" one. People spot a machine by its tone, not its speed. Take twenty of your real replies and turn them into rules: short sentences, first names, no bullet lists, end with a question. And spell out what it must never do.
- One week in draft mode. The AI writes and you send. Your edits are kept as examples; within seven days it replies like you.
- Follow up in moderation. One nudge two days after a quote, a reminder after four days to someone thinking it over. One, not five. And nothing more to anyone who says no.
- Look after your number. With QR linking, Meta can restrict a number that sends in bulk. Daily caps, pauses and varied wording keep usage at a human pace. If you see messages stuck on a single tick, stop for the day.
- Measure. Which message went out, at what time and whether they replied. Within a week you know which wording converts twice as well.
Can you automate WhatsApp for free?
Partly. The WhatsApp Business app includes a free greeting message, away message, quick replies and labels. Add wa.me links with a pre-written message, and broadcast lists to contacts who saved your number. Open-source tools such as n8n are free as software, but they need a server running all day, an AI model paid per use and hours of maintenance.
Free stops where selling starts: answering what each customer actually asks rather than a fixed message, knowing who is interested without reading everything, sending the follow-up on the right day and running several numbers on one screen. That costs something; see our pricing.
GDPR and PECR
Your business is the controller of the conversations and MultiChats is the processor, with an Article 28 data processing agreement included in our terms. The AI that drafts replies doesn't use your conversations for training. Anyone who asks not to be contacted again is recorded permanently.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work with WhatsApp Business?
Yes, with standard WhatsApp and the WhatsApp Business app on your phone. Not with Meta's WhatsApp Business API, which is a different product.
How long does set-up take?
Same day: you link your numbers, tell us what you sell and how you reply, and the agent starts in draft mode.
Can several people reply at once?
Yes. The inbox opens on several computers and phones with the same account; each number is a column.
Is there a free WhatsApp chatbot?
Some platforms have limited free plans and there are open-source projects. With AI and no limits, completely free, no: someone pays for the server and the model.
Can free automation get my number blocked?
The features inside the WhatsApp Business app, no. Unofficial tools that send messages in bulk, yes, they can.
