A WhatsApp AI chatbot without menus or buttons

Old-style chatbots make customers press 1, 2 or 3. One with AI understands what they type, even when it's misspelt, half-finished or split over three messages.

IN SHORTA WhatsApp AI chatbot uses a language model to understand free-text messages and write a fresh reply each time, instead of following a tree of options. The MultiChats one runs on your existing number, replies in your tone, sorts each contact, follows up and stops when it's time to negotiate, close or deal with a complaint.

Button bots and AI chatbots

A button chatbot is a tree someone draws: if the customer taps "prices", the prices message comes out. It works as long as the customer stays on the path. When they type "and what if I only come in the mornings", the bot is stuck.

An AI chatbot has no tree. It reads the message, puts it together with what's been said before and writes a new reply using the information you've given it. That's why people increasingly call it an AI agent: it doesn't just answer, it decides whether to ask, wait or hand over to a person. The full comparison is in chatbot vs AI agent.

What the MultiChats chatbot does

  • Waits for you to finish. If the customer sends three messages in a row, it waits a minute and answers all three together.
  • Replies in your tone. Short sentences, first names or formal, no bullet lists or emojis unless you use them.
  • Understands voice notes. They're transcribed and it replies to what was said.
  • Sorts contacts. Interested, has a question, thinking it over, not interested.
  • Follows up. It messages again when it's due, once.
  • Knows when to stop. Calls, haggling, complaints and purchases go to a person.

Setting it up

You link your WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business by scanning a QR code, like WhatsApp Web; the number stays on your phone. You tell us what you sell, at what price, the questions you get and how you answer them. On day one it works in draft mode: it writes and you press send. Each draft you correct is kept as an example. When you like how it replies, switch it to automatic.

Worth knowing

In 2025 Meta changed the WhatsApp Business API terms to exclude general-purpose AI assistants (the ones that chat about anything); bots that serve a business's own customers are still allowed. MultiChats is the second kind: it only talks about your business.

MultiChats doesn't use the official API: it links by QR. That's more flexible and needs no templates, but Meta can restrict a number that sends in bulk. We apply caps and pauses so usage stays at a human pace, and alert you if a number shows signs of trouble.

Price

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free WhatsApp AI chatbot?

The WhatsApp Business app has free automatic replies, but without AI: they always say the same thing. Meta is adding its own assistant in some countries. A chatbot with AI that also follows up costs money: someone pays for the server and the model.

Does it work with WhatsApp Business?

Yes, with the WhatsApp app and the WhatsApp Business app. It isn't built on Meta's WhatsApp Business API.

What if it doesn't know the answer?

It says so, offers to check and the conversation is flagged for you. It doesn't make up prices or features.

Will my customers know it's a bot?

If they ask, it doesn't deny it. Most won't notice, because it writes like you.
